So this post is a resume of an excellent YouTube video by Ali Abdaal.
How do you start a business from scratch. I’ve been following him for years and he has such valuable resource and inspiration to me. Here are some of his insights:
Build in public
Log the steps that you take to building your thing and share it.
Document your journey and the process of starting your thing
Resources your using
Sources of inspiration
Little tricks that help
Book summaries of what you’re reading
Provide value first and don’t expect quick return A. Giving and doing things in business without expectation in return brings leverage Eg: Don’t be pushy to sign a mailing list.
Target a market that is filled with people you care about.
You know what there needs are better than if you try to work in anot
Eg: for Ali: you tubers: they need the following: Someone to create blog post from their videos Twitter posts from their videos Thumbnails for their videos Five actionable steps to take
Learn a monetized skill that can help your population: Eg YouTubers need: video editing, thumbnails, conversion into blog posts, make twitter (these are good for sco),
Offer your services for free: to show what you can do and give things away to try (edit video, create thumbnails etc)
Turn it into a paid gig: go to people you gave things to free and this is how much I would charge/hour .
Productize your product: move from hourly rate to productive: eg three thumbnails/month for this price, three blog posts/month, three reports/hour etc..Avoid charging/hour afterwards. Read this book ‘Take your shot’
Hire people: read ‘traction’, ‘the e-myth revisited’. These books give insight on how to bring people on board to leverage your time and your skills.
So I thought that you might like this little resume on starting your own business. So some food for thought: What population do you care about? What are the needs of this population?
